Bethany Lohmeyer met Ben McDonald on a blind date two years ago. After a year of dating, Ben popped the big question. As the assistant art director at 417 Magazine, Bethany is well versed in the power of color and design. The two planned their wedding to be simple and casual. “I am from the Big Fat Greek Wedding family, so this was very different from the weddings I have known,” Ben says.
After a punch-and-cake reception at the church, the couple hosted 40 guests in the backyard of the 100-year-old home where Bethany grew up. Silhouettes of the couple, created by Bethany, adorned the trees, while guests enjoyed a summer backyard barbecue with buckets of beer and wine staving off the heat. Guests enjoyed a laid-back atmosphere and played bocce ball and other lawn games.
