To propose, Jacob Miller recreated the first date he ever shared with Laura Burgess.
The two first met in 2007 while working at a conference for middle school students at Rogersville’s Fellowship Bible Church, but they didn’t share a date until more than a year later. Their first date was at Peking House, where Laura says they met with the intention to discuss the spot ministry held in each of their hearts. The two continued their conversation at Andy’s Frozen Custard, and they eventually ended up chatting at a bridge near the James River.
A little more than eight months later, Jacob suggested the two eat at Peking House for dinner. The night ended with Laura reading a hand-written note from Jacob as they sat at a bridge near the James River. The note closed with him suggesting she look down. When she did, she saw Jacob on one knee, and he asked her to be his wife.
The two were married on July 18, 2009, at Fellowship Bible Church in Rogersville. Since neither the bride nor the groom like cake, they didn’t have a wedding cake. But guests fulfilled their sweet cravings with a dessert reception catered by Simply Delicious.
The bride had three bridesmaids: her friends Sarah Whiting and Sara Griffith and her friend and sister-in-law Danielle Ripley. Groomsmen were the groom’s friends Barry Kemp, Doug Fee and Chaz Miller.
